Types of Braces

Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

When you think of braces, you’re most likely thinking of traditional metal braces. This is the most common type of braces, made of stainless steel brackets and wires. You can also add coloured elastics for a brighter and more unique smile!

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are made of the same material as traditional braces. However, they don’t require elastics. That means that less friction will be placed on your teeth, and you’ll need to come in for fewer appointments! Self-ligating braces will come with either metal, ceramic, or clear brackets, and they’ll use a special clip to help guide your teeth rather than elastics.

Clear/Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are clear, making them significantly less visible than traditional metal braces. This is a great option for teenagers and adults who are concerned about the appearance of braces. However, patients with ceramic braces will need to pay closer attention to their oral hygiene because they are bigger and more brittle than metal braces. As such, it’s more common to use ceramic braces on upper teeth than on lower teeth.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are acrylic trays that work like braces. During treatment, you’ll receive a series of aligners that will slowly move your teeth into their proper places. These aligners are invisible and removable, so there will be no aesthetic issues or food restrictions. This also makes brushing and flossing far easier!
